(2007 Matildas Awards)

A Russian submarine mysteriously vanished in August 2000. The wreckage was eventually discovered on the bottom of the ocean with 23 survivors trapped inside.

This extraordinary play reveals the true story behind the ill-fated submarine The Kursk. Compelling from beginning to end, the pressure is extreme and the stakes are high.

The sailors wait helplessly, trapped 80 metres beneath the sea. On the surface their rescuers work frantically. Many have friends trapped on board. Admiral Popov, their leader, is under extreme pressure to succeed at all costs. If he doesn't, there will be a nuclear disaster in the Atlantic.

All the while families and loved ones are desperate for any news. A young woman waits for her sailor, as he writes her love letters while trapped inside The Kursk.

The Kursk is a thriller, a mystery and a love story.
