RIVERLINKS MUSIC SEASON and More Than Opera present A Musical Double Bill

A Musical Double Bill
Act ONE
A Postcard from Carlton (Una Cartolina da Carlton)
A new opera, in One Act,
By David Kram
Performed in English, with some Italian lyrics.

Dr David Kram, who's a graduate of the Royal College of Music, London, has written both music and libretto for the comic opera which tells the story of Mario's lost love, Risata. Mario promises he will send for Risata, his childhood sweetheart, after he establishes himself in his new home in Australia. While he does write back to Italy asking Risata to join him, the postcard is lost and each thinks they've been forgotten by the other. A Postcard from Carlton uses the usual operatic tricks of misplaced objects and mistaken identity to tell the comic tale. Kram uses a variety of musical styles in the work, from Italian opera to rock and Eurovision!

The opera celebrates life in Carlton during the days when it was predominantly an Italian community. Inspired by classical opera, pop, and Italian folk music, the opera rocks! Highlights include the comical duet between Collingwood and Carlton supporters, the ‘cappuccino making song' and the beautiful "Cantare".

Artists: Tania Borg (sop), Angela Lumicisi (sop), Boyd Owen (ten), Jaison Hoernel (bar),
members of Bendigo Youth Choir directed by Valerie Broad OAM.
Composer, librettist and MD David Kram.
Director Belinda Saltmarsh. Designer (and stage manager) Drasko Boljevic.

Act TWO
Shepparton's Favourite Arias
A celebration of the greatest arias from Opera, as chosen by YOU, the Shepparton Audience.

David Kram and the cast from More Than Opera have agreed to sing ‘Shepparton's Top 10' opera arias as the second part of our afternoon ‘double bill'. What is in it will be up to you.

We will be polling our audience in the lead-up to this concert to find out what are Shepparton audiences' favourite songs from Opera. ‘Nessun Dorma'? ‘Un bel dì (One fine day)?' ‘L'amour est un oiseau rebelle (Habanera)'? What will we (YOU) be asking them to sing?

Come along on Sunday 31st August to hear the count down! Enjoy the great music from the prodigious talent of More than Opera, led by maestro Dr David Kram, and wait to see what is top of the ‘Pop-Ops' in Shepparton!
