Shepparton Theatre Arts Group presents Minefields and Miniskirts
Popular actors from Shepparton Theatre Arts Group (STAG) will appear in the moving, enlightening and sometimes shocking play, Minefields and Miniskirts.
Directed by Andrew Morom, Minefields & Miniskirts is a collection of stories and memories from the women who were affected by the Vietnam War. It features the very experienced Fiona Kennan and Di Dickinson as Eve the volunteer and Kathy the nurse, as well as STAG Life members Joyce Baker-Dawber as Margaret, the wife of a Vietnam vet and Liz Zito as Sandy the entertainer. The play will also introduce Jacqui Pithie in her first large acting role with STAG.These strong women have worked with Morom to research their characters and have noted that, although most people know stories about the armed services who went to Vietnam, there is lesser known about the many woman who also served in some way, both in Vietnam and here in Australia. All of these women faced the horrors of war and the people of the land who were affected by that war, every minute of their time in Vietnam.
Minefields and Miniskirts is about five of those Australian women and is based on real people and real events.
Director Andrew Morom says "Much has been written about the young soldiers who went to Vietnam as innocent boys and returned as hollowed out men. Far less has been written about the women, who mostly went in caring roles rather than to the front-line. But their experience was just as defining, and haunting, for them."
"They encountered adventure and abuse, romance and rape, carnage and cause for celebration. They also discovered strengths they never knew they had." Morom said.
