David Helfgott, one of the world's best loved pianists, returns to Shepparton with an exciting programme played on Shepparton's magnificent Steinway, at the Eastbank Centre on Friday 14 August at 8pm. The Steinway will be on stage and the auditorium will be set with full tiered seating for your viewing and acoustic pleasure.
Acknowledged as one of the most remarkable musicians of his time, David Helfgott will perform works by the greatest romantic composers including Rachmaninov, and Chopin.
The world fell in love with this astonishing Australian virtuoso when his amazing life story was brought to the screen in the film Shine and since then he has captivated audiences of all ages and nationalities.
Few will forget the night Australia ‘arrived' on the Hollywood stage, when Helfgott dazzled the huge audience at the Oscars with Rimsky-Korsakov's Flight of the Bumble Bee, and night Geoffrey Rush won Best Actor for his portrayal of David in the film "Shine".
His most recent performances at the Hamer Hall in Melbourne have been heavily booked and his performances were as rapturously received as ever. Audiences for his concerts range from ‘traditionalists' to ‘first-timers' and he never fails to win converts.
Without doubt, it is the sheer unrestrained joy of Helgott's performance that captivates audiences. There are few pianists who can sweep the audience into the pure romantic fantasy and emotion of this music the way Helfgott does.
