Greater Shepparton is an unsubdivided municipality.

Seven councillors were elected in December 2008.

Those elected were Cr Michael Polan (Mayor),  Cr Chris Hazelman (Deputy Mayor) Cr Cherie Crawford, Cr Geoff Dobson, Cr Jenny Houlihan, , Cr Milvan Muto and  Cr Kevin 'Gunna' Ryan.

Cr Michael Polan (Mayor)
Cr Michael Polan and his family reside in Shepparton. He is married to Mandy and they have six children.
Cr Chris Hazelman (Deputy Mayor)
Councillor Chris Hazelman has lived in Shepparton with his family for most of his life.
Cr Cherie Crawford
Councillor Cherie Crawford lives in Mooroopna and has been involved in local government for many years.
Cr Geoff Dobson
Councillor Geoff Dobson has lived in Shepparton for most of his life; his family is third generation Shepparton residents.
Cr Jenny Houlihan
Councillor Houlihan has lived in Shepparton for 40 years with her husband Leo and has two children and five grandchildren, who all live locally.
Cr Milvan Muto
Councillor Muto was born in France and migrated with his family to the Shepparton area when he was a baby. He has lived in Tatura, Toolamba and now resides in Shepparton.
Cr Kevin Ryan
Councillor Kevin 'Gunna' Ryan and his family live in Harston Tatura, where the Ryan family were original settlers.
