The Australian Ballet presents The Dancers Company in A Classical Triple Bill
In 2008 The Dancers Company is delighted to present three magnificent classical works: Les Sylphides; Graduation Ball; The Sleeping Beauty Act 3 - Aurora's Wedding.
Set to gorgeous music by Frédéric Chopin, Mikhail Fokine's Les Sylphides is considered by many as the perfect blending of movement and music. Les Sylphides evokes the atmosphere and the style of the Romantic Era of the 19th Century with its dreamy moonlit sets, beautiful white romantic tutus and sublime classical technique.
Graduation Ball by David Lichine is a traditional work of great charm. The setting is a girl's school in Vienna. A cheeky and humorous ballet, it is the
story of boy meets girl - and an extremely prudish headmistress! The ballet is set to music by popular composer Johan Strauss.
The supreme ballet of the 19th century, Marius Petipa's The Sleeping Beauty Act 3, is the story of Princess Aurora and Prince Florimund's wedding. Fairytale
characters pay their respects to the bride and groom at the festivities of this joyous celebration. With gorgeous sets and costumes, meticulous dancing and
the fabulous music of Pyotr Tchaikovsky, you won't want to miss the biggest wedding of all time!
The 2008 programme has been inspired by works performed by the infl uential Ballets Russes (Russian ballet) companies of the early 20th century, and marks
the 72nd anniversary of the fi rst tour by the Ballets Russes to Australia with these highlights of their repertoire.
